Yes Google Ad-words is very real. You just have to know the ins and outs of it ,relevance is the key but there are also other factors to consider when you are trying to sale clickbank products.
I came across a book similar to google cash when I first started online with clickbank then I found a place called wealthy affiliate that answered all my questions eventually you will probably wind up there because there is quite a bit to learn about promoting clickbank products.

Yes, It is real. Google is all about relevancy and when you relate stuff..it means it is 100% real, no catch no cheating. Whatever Google says it is true. Remember the book is not from Google. Yes Google has designed various products that you can employee to make good money.

Adwords or PPC is very real and a lot of people make a lot of money and a lot of people lose a lot of money. I would also suggest going over to google and watching all their tutorials there and reading all their info. You can learn a lot for free there. The only other piece of advice other than relevancy is your keyword bidding strategy. I was lucky and stumbled accross a software the actually manages your campaigns for you. I wish I had this when I started. It saved me a bunch of money, but alas, too late! good luck mate
